Yes, what began with 64 bands battling their way through the bracket has come down to this: four acts — Tokio Hotel, Ed Sheeran, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Walk The Moon — all competing for the same singular goal: the Musical March Madness championship (and the very nice, very big gold trophy that comes along with it). After three weeks and 30 million votes ... the title is perilously close; and a loss now would hurt so bad.
Thirty Seconds To Mars face off against this year's Cinderella story, Walk The Moon, in what has got to be the most unlikely Final Four matchup in MMM history (if not the most astrological). And yet, it's also one that's rife with storylines. For starters, there's the fact that, after years of tournament heartbreak, Mars may finally be putting the pieces together for a championship run. They've never made a Final Four before, and, after an impressive string of victories — they downed the likes of Maroon 5, Blink-182 and former champions Green Day just to get here — they've proven that they're tournament tough. For years, their Echelon have been thirsting for a title, and now, well, it's within reach.
Of course, to get there, Mars is going to have to figure out a way to defeat Walk The Moon, something no other band in the tournament has been able to do so far. WTM entered the field of 64 as a lowly 15 seed, but, after impressive victories over the likes of the Foo Fighters and Fall Out Boy, they've managed to accomplish what no other MMM underdog has: punch their ticket to the Final Four. One more win would put them in the championship game, and strike a blow for little guys everywhere. Can they continue their dream run, and become the most improbably champs in tournament history? Well, that's up to you!
MTV's Musical March Madness tournament reaches the Final Four! Voting is now open in all matchups and polls close Monday, April 8 at noon ET, at which point we'll head to the MMM Championship Game. All winners are determined by your votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it'll be up to you to guide them to glory! You can spread the word on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, it's gonna be a war.
