Let's all get up to speed on the wonky world of Miley Cyrus: Her man was out of town, she took her engagement ring off, put it back on and got a new tattoo, before slipping on a unicorn onesie and shaking her tail.
Whew! But what she absolutely did not do is reunite with old flame Nick Jonas. Miley made this very clear Wednesday (March 27) on Twitter, writing, "I literally haven't seen Nick Jonas in years. Don't believe everything you read folks."
The latest story catching wind was that Miley and Nick had lunch Monday at Paty's Restaurant in Toluca Lake, California. For a bogus report, it's pretty detailed. A "source close to the situation" allegedly told HollywoodLife.com about the lunch date, saying, "[There was] absolutely no romantic vibe at all, at any time while they ate and while they were there. It seemed more like a meeting than a friendly chit chat or get together — it was a more serious tone, based on their demeanor. They seemed to be having a business meeting — they were on their phones and then they left without incident."
The source said Miley's fiancé, "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth, was "fully aware" that his girl was chopping it up with her ex and said "there is nothing to worry about at all."
Perhaps fans were so eager to believe the story because the Liam/Miley engagement seemed doomed from the start. Also, who doesn't want to see two Disney stars together? Nick and Miley were a match made in Mickey Mouse heaven, dating for two years all the way back in 2008. In Miley's autobiography, "Miles to Go," the pop star detailed meeting her "Prince Charming" on June 11, 2006. She even called the JoBro her first love. Fifteen-year-old Miley told Seventeen magazine that she took the breakup really hard.
"At first I bawled for a month straight," she said. "I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black."
"When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights — and so I did that, and I got myself looking great," she continued. "And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, 'I want to make my hair black now — I don't want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core.' I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, 'I've got to be by myself for now and just figure out who I really am.' "
From the looks of things, Miley might still be on the path to discovery. And 19-year-old Miley might disagree with a prediction her younger self made about a possible reunion with Nick.
"Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life," she speculated, "or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!"
Clearly, Miley shut that down when she told the world she hasn't seen Nick in years. Chances are it didn't help matters when Nick pulled a Taylor Swift move and released a song called "Wedding Bells" shortly after Miley announced her engagement. Miley said it was "pretty blatant" that the song was about her, and Nick didn't disagree.
"You have to write a song and apologize for it later," he announced onstage back in October. "I don't think I've ever written a song that makes me as uncomfortable as this song does. Some things happened in the last year that affected me in that moment. ... This song is called 'Wedding Bells.' "
Miley has been shutting down rumors for weeks now, including those pesky reports that her engagement was called off. The singer has made repeated attempts to steer the conversation to her new album, which has been in the works forever, it seems. Last week, however, she was excited to announce that her lead single will feature Snoop Lion. "It's coming out very, very soon," Miley promised.
Will it come sooner than another breakup — or hookup — report?
