Demi Lovato promised anxious fans that she would rock out in her new video for "Heart Attack." But where do these pictures of her hands covered in black paint come in?

In photos released Thursday (March 14) from the "Heart Attack" video set, Lovato is seen in a white bathrobe, but her hands are not so pristine. They appear to have been dipped in black paint, giving the illusion of skintight latex gloves.

The pics can only mean we're getting closer to the official release of the clip for the lead single from Lovato's third studio album. She's kept the plot under wraps, but we do know the "fashion-based" and "performance-based" video will feature a stylistic departure from the 20-year-old's previous looks.

"I think the image of the video, I'm taking on a different look this time around," Lovato told MTV News. "I feel like I have my own thing going, like rocker-chic sophisticated, just a different kind of fashion style this time around."

Though the booming, uptempo single was supposed to be released March 4, Demi couldn't wait, dropping the song in late February instead and sharing a lyric video for her Lovatics on March 1. The song is about a girl scared to take the plunge and fall in love.

Demi Lovato shows off her cute new haircut.

"The title is just about falling in love and taking that risk. But she's terrified, and by 'she,' I mean me," Lovato explained. "But I think everyone comes to a point where they feel very vulnerable in falling in love and that's what I'm talking about."

While we wait for the "Heart Attack" video — and deets about those black-paint-dipped paws — Simon Cowell recently shared some insight during "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" about a possible return to the "X Factor" judges' table for Demi. "Nothing is official, but I liked having Demi on the show. She's fun to work with," Cowell said. "I think we'd be crazy not to have her back."
