It's been five days since Harry Styles and Taylor Swift were photographed walking hand-in-hand through Central Park. Since then, they've been spotted together around New York City, including partying Monday night with the rest of One Direction and mutual pal Ed Sheeran at the afterparty for the band's Madison Square Garden gig.
So when the Grammy-nominated Sheeran stopped by Katie Couric's talk show on Wednesday afternoon, she wanted to know if he had any inside knowledge about the rumored budding romance. With a grin on his face, he told Couric, "I mean, the papers are saying it." But it was his all-knowing nod that may have confirmed the relationship.
Sheeran is not only pals with both the guys in 1D as well as Swift, but he also worked with all of them on their latest albums. Sheeran appears on Swift's track "Everything Has Changed," from Red, and penned two One Direction songs from Take Me Home, including the single "Little Things."
Given that he so frequently helps write tracks for these two artists, he might want to take notes on their current relationship. Of his sessions with Swift earlier this year, Sheeran dished to MTV News about what it was like to work with her. "She's one of very few people left in the industry that actually worries about the songs that she sings, like she actually wants to write them herself," he said. "Which I think is a very positive thing."
Meanwhile, he knew that when it came time to gift songs to 1D, it was all about L-O-V-E. When describing "Little Things," Sheeran said it "is kind of a very sweet song. It was written about the best things about someone, kind of like the things you wouldn't expect."
Sheeran may be playing coy, but fans have been salivating over snapshots of Haylor that seem to validate the rumors. With the pair spotted coming and going from hotels in New York together, Swift and Styles spent some time apart Wednesday (he was in NYC while she was in Nashville to announce the Grammy nominations). The twosome will be back in the Big Apple on Friday, when they're both scheduled to perform during Z100's Jingle Ball.
