The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards just got real, because One Direction has arrived.

That's right, the boys of 1D are rehearsing right now for their performance tomorrow at the VMAs, which airs live starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT. We aren't going to give away any details about their set because we want it to be a surprise when you get to see it tomorrow, but when we caught up with the band beforehand they were bubbling with excitement for their big VMAs debut.

"I think people should expect just a massive show from the VMAs this year. If you look at the people who are performing, there are some massive, massive stars," Harry Styles said. "It should be a great show, and we can't wait to perform. It's our first time, so it should be fun."

MTV News caught up with Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Styles and Louis Tomlinson while they were hanging out at a nearby Los Angeles hotel before they headed off to rehearsals. Even though their location is top secret, there were still hundreds of fans outside the hotel hoping for a glimpse of the British boy band.

Being the charmers that they are, the boys of 1D took the time to meet fans and snap photos instead of speeding off to their rehearsal stage. And if their response is any indication of how Directioners will act when their guys perform tomorrow, it's sure to be one of the most insane VMAs performances ever. And that's exactly what 1D planned.

"We're really excited. We actually saw the performance yesterday for the first time and I think we all agree it's going to be one of our much bigger performances and we're really excited for it," Payne said. "Obviously we know the VMAs are a huge deal where history's made and people do different things to stand out, so we're hoping to have our performance really stand out."
