Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy was and always will be billed as a darker take on the Caped Crusader's origin story, but that doesn't mean the writer-director didn't have a bit of fun with the script's quippy dialogue. (Gotta balance all that grit with a bit of levity!) So as "The Dark Knight Rises" brings the epic trilogy to a close, we look back at the franchise's best one-liners.

(Warning: Spoilers ahead)

"Batman Begins"
The setup: Bruce Wayne returns to his home many years after disappearing and being declared dead to find everything just as he'd left it thanks to faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth.

The punch:
Wayne: Well, it's a good thing I left everything to you, then.
Pennyworth: Quite so, sir. And you can borrow the Rolls if you like. Just bring it back with a full tank.

The setup: Pennyworth sneaks up behind an evil henchman as he watches Wayne Manor burn, clocking him with a golf club.

The punch:
Pennyworth: "I hope you're not a member of the fire brigade."

The setup: Wayne retrieves his fancy sports car from the valet.

The punch:
Valet: Nice car.
Wayne: You should see my other one.

The setup: A homeless man watches as Wayne is thrown out of mafioso Carmine Falcone's restaurant.

The punch:
Homeless man: Should've tipped better!

"The Dark Knight"
The setup: Wayne meets District Attorney Harvey Dent for the first time.

The punch:
Dent: The famous Bruce Wayne. Rachel's told me everything about you.
Wayne: I certainly hope not.

The setup: While on a date, Wayne runs into Dent and love Rachel Dawes and suggests moving their tables together.

The punch:
Dent: I'm not sure they'll let us.
Wayne: Oh, they should. I own the place.

"The Dark Knight Rises"
The setup: Batman and Catwoman are on a roof together. Batman turns away for a moment, and when he turns back she's disappeared.

The punch:
Batman: So this is what that feels like.
