A few weeks back, Prince serenaded "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester during a New York stop of his Welcome 2 America Tour. On Monday night, the Purple One brought another sexy young lady onstage with him at his latest Madison Square Garden concert. This time, reality starlet Kim Kardashian showed up.
After dancing with one fan, Prince laughed to a male audience member, "Oh no brother, I can't dance with you!" But once he spotted the reality star, he dragged Kim up onto the stage to dance with him. Instead of shaking her groove thing, though, Kim uncomfortably giggled next to the icon, who didn't seem amused by Kim playing coy. Moments later, Prince told her, "Get off the stage! Welcome to America!"
Accoding to MTV TJ Gabi Gregg who was at the show, Prince was looking for people to dance with and asked one of his backup singers to find someone in the audience.
So what was he looking for in a dance partner? Gregg recalled, "He wanted 'a big sexy mama.' He danced with an older woman first and kicked her off, saying she was too sexy. Then he brought Kim up and she just sort of stood there and everyone was like, 'What are you doing? It's Prince.' If you go on stage with Prince, you dance.
Kardashian seemed unfazed by the encounter, later tweeting that Prince had even brought her back onstage and that she was less shy that time around.
"I thought it was because of her heels, but she tweeted that she froze because she was nervous," Gregg said recalling how Kardashian was slow to dance. "At the end of the show, Kim went up again with [boyfriend] Kris Humphries and they kind of did a two-step and stuff but they still weren't really getting down."
"Pulling up to the Prince concert with @KrisHumphries @JonathanCheban @TheguyinMN," Kim had tweeted earlier Monday night. "Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999."
After the incident, Kim shared, "OMG Prince just pulled me up on stage!!! I'm shaking!!!! I was so nervous I froze when Prince touched me!!!!" She admitted that things went better on her second go-round: "Went up on stage AGAIN! This time I redeemed myself! We all danced while Prince played the piano! Wow! What a night!" Her pal, Jonathan Cheban, also tweeted about the concert encounter, agreeing that Kim was in fact more comfortable the second time onstage.
"U were much less shy for round 2 of dancing on the stage with Prince," he wrote. "Haha."
