Though the "Idol" landscape has changed drastically since Daughtry's time on its stage, the multiplatinum rocker is very much looking forward to seeing what Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who are rumored to be joining the panel for the show's 10th season, will bring to the table.
"I'm a huge Aerosmith fan, so it's going to be interesting to see how his off-stage persona is and how he handles judging the contestants," Daughtry told MTV News on the blue carpet at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. "It's also going to be interesting to see if J. Lo can criticize someone, because she's such a sweetheart."
With the famously acerbic Cowell out of the mix, Daughtry has a feeling that the Aerosmith frontman might take over the role of caustic truth-teller. "Maybe that's where Steven Tyler comes in," he said.
Daughtry also seemed sympathetic to the reasons behind DeGeneres' exit.
"I love Ellen to death, and I was never sure if that was a fit for her," he said. "She's such a fan of music and it always seemed like she was a little uncomfortable judging them. I think she made the right decision."
