Spencer Pratt says that he and wife Heidi Montag separated last month because the two grew apart. Their main rift was that he still enjoys being in the limelight, while she would prefer a more settled life.
"We love each other but I'm a famewhore and I'll never grow out of it," Pratt told People.com. "[Heidi] knows that and doesn't want that. I want every kind of press. She believes in bad press. There's no way my love for fame and her love for puppies will ever work out successfully. She just wants to hike and hang out and be calmer."
Heidi has remained incredibly low-key since she filed for legal separation from Spencer, tweeting mostly about going to the beach. And Spencer is working on a new plan for his life. He explained that these days Heidi "doesn't want to be Speidi anymore. She wants to be Heidi Montag: the sex symbol."
Pratt also reveals that the fight over the couple's press had been weighing on them for quite some time. "It's been a constant battle since we got married [in April 2009]," he explained. "She would be like, 'Are you really tweeting that? Are you really doing that?' "
So what does Spencer want to do next? "I'm switching it up. I've already gone for the blond, spiky-haired look. Now I'm going for the Hollywood producer look," he said. "I'm an artist now. I have an easel and everything. I'm going for an art show and a gallery."
