Well, there wasn't any nudity, but that's about the only thing Katy Perry didn't pack into the first-ever TV performance of her new single "California Gurls" on Sunday at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

A DayGlo mélange of sun, skin and, well, Snoop, the performance began with Perry — who was dressed as a sort of LED-enhanced Wonder Woman — suspended above the stage on a surfboard (which she slowly rode down to earth) and kicked into high gear with an army of backup dancers in visors and Daisy Dukes. Things then got delightfully over-the-top with roller skaters, an overload of beach balls and Snoop, who showed up on a throne complete with a pair of palm-frond-clutching gals.

The overarching theme of the thing, was, of course, California (and if you forgot, there was a giant illuminated sign with the state's name behind her), which explained all the beachy elements, but Perry put her own spin on things with her star-spangled outfit and her now omnipresent blue wig. She popped and pranced, in stilettos, backed by the aforementioned (very bright) backup dancers and a poppy, powerful live band, sang the hook through a microphone that descended from the ceiling and looked very much like she was having a blast the entire time. And really, it's hard to imagine how she couldn't have.

Midway through all the madness, Snoop — who wore shorts for the occasion — spit his verse (after rising from his throne, of course) paying homage to the Cali girls he loves so well, grooved a bit, then turned the spotlight back over to Perry. And as the beach balls cascaded down from the heavens, the duo embraced, the crowd (which, of course, included Perry's very proud-looking beau Russell Brand) cheered and the state of California officially got a brand-new anthem — not to mention a few degrees cooler in the best possible way.
