"One song in particular that we've been listening to a lot and playing out when we DJ is this song called 'Flashback' by Calvin Harris," LMFAO's Redfoo told MTV News. "It's a trip, though, when you play it in the club, man. It just stops everything."
And having earned the 2009 NME Award for Best Dancefloor Filler for "Dance Wiv Me," a collaboration with Dizzee Rascal that tore up the U.K. charts last summer, American pop artists could be begging for the Harris touch in the very near future. (Skeptics can direct their attention to Kylie Minogue's last LP, X, for which Harris produced "In My Arms" and "Heart Beat Rock.")
Harris' prowess as a producer and songwriter sets him apart from the onslaught of similar-sounding electro bangers pervading the blogosphere. Without bowing to current dance-music trends, Harris has garnered support from many of the genre's reigning champs.
"Dude, it's like I'm living in a different dimension at the moment," Harris told MTV News. "These people like Tiësto and David Guetta ... I'm trying to climb that ladder that they're at the top of right now, so saying that they like my music or even wanna chat with me is still amazing to me right now."
His modesty notwithstanding, Harris has gotten more than a simple nod of approval from these pack leaders; Tiësto remixed Harris' "I'm Not Alone," and Guetta reworked "Flashback," both tracks from Harris' Balearic-leaning second LP, Ready for the Weekend.
