MIAMI — If there's one thing MTV News learned from this year's Winter Music Conference in Miami, it's this: David Guetta is king.
On Friday night, the French house DJ and producer headlined the Ultra Music Festival, a blockbuster two-day affair that also included performances by Deadmau5, Will.I.Am, Kaskade, Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren and Swedish House Mafia.
Guetta's performance was something of a sing-along: any song with a vocal element inspired the crowd to join in. And to make the atmosphere more explosive, Guetta had a few of his collaborators and friends join him onstage.
For the finale,
After the show MTV News caught up with Red and Sky, who were backstage with Lil Jon, to talk about the song.
"The concept is, you're in love with a girl and then you guys separate," Redfoo said. "She probably got with Lil Jon or somebody," he joked. ("Not me!" Jon interjected.) Red continued, "So I'm gonna party till you come get me."
The playful track, according to Red, came together after a Black Eyed Peas show in New York.
"We met backstage after a show at Madison Square Garden, and [Guetta] gave us the track and was like, 'Yo, I want y'all to do something with this.' Baboom!" Red recalled. "We took it back to the hotel, and we got a bottle of Patron ... and then we recorded our vocals in the hotel with a couple of female spectators. And then we sent it off to him, and he does his magic to it. Boom!"
Based on the crowd response Friday night, that magic was felt by the crowd. But according to Sky and Red, the fans were just as responsible for the good vibes.
"The people were incredible," said Red. "The party animals were out. It was just a sea of hands up and just love. These festivals. This rave sh--. People just want to have a good time. That's it."
