Corey Haim will be buried in his native Canada on Tuesday, a week after the 38-year-old "Lost Boys" actor collapsed and died in his mother's Los Angeles apartment. According to "Access Hollywood," the city of Toronto will help cover the costs of the funeral for the actor, who friend Corey Feldman has said was financially strapped near the end of his life.

"Corey's funeral will be taking place next week in his hometown of Toronto, Canada," reads a message on Haim's official Web site. "Due to the unexpected expenses of transporting his body to Canada for final resting, a fund has been set up to help his family." Details on how to donate are provided on the site.

Judy Haim, the actor's mother, told "Access" that while the Canadian city will pick up the funeral costs, a celebrity memorabilia site, Startifacts.com, has offered to pay around $20,000 for the tombstone, food, guests and other miscellaneous expenses for the burial. The Toronto Star reported that the owner of the site said he first met Haim in 2001, when the actor offered founder Michael Kronick one of his teeth following oral surgery that he wanted sold to a memorabilia collector.

Over the years, Kronick bought several items from Haim, and when he heard about the former child star's death, he offered to help out.

Following reports that the city would be picking up the funeral costs, Kevin Sack, a spokesperson for Toronto, released a statement refuting the story.

"Media reports concerning funeral costs for Mr. Haim continue to reference the City of Toronto," said Sack, the director of strategic communications for the city. "As a result of these ongoing reports, the City of Toronto wishes to ensure the facts are properly available. The City of Toronto has never received an application for assistance with the funeral costs for Mr. Haim. While the City would normally not confirm or deny the existence of an application for assistance with funeral benefits as this is a matter covered by Privacy regulations; given the number of reports the City has chosen to confirm the facts in this matter."

Sack went on to explain that while the city is not involved in the Haim funeral, like many cities, Toronto assists residents that can't afford to pay for basic funeral and burial costs. "An evaluation of the Estate is conducted before any assistance is provided," he said.

The service will be private, according to a note posted on the actor's MySpace page. "Please keep the Haim family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. ... The services will be closed to the public & it has been requested that Corey's family be allowed privacy during this time. In lieu of sending any flowers for Corey's funeral, Judy suggested a wonderful idea: Please send some flowers, in memory of Corey, to the cancer ward @ your local hospital."

Judy Haim said last week that the Los Angeles County Coroner's office told her that Corey died of pulmonary congestion, though officials have not yet released a cause of death, pending toxicology tests, which could take six to eight weeks. Following reports that four different strong prescription drugs in Haim's name were found in the apartment he shared with his mother, over the weekend news broke that Haim may have had links to a massive drug ring that provided him with illegal painkiller prescriptions.
