Over the course of Robert Pattinson's six-year-long acting career, the two projects the 23-year-old Brit has become best known for have been "The Twilight Saga" and "Harry Potter." But the March 12 release of his newest film, "Remember Me," looms ever closer, and it could be Pattinson's big chance to break out of the supernatural-character mold.
"Remember Me" will be the first non-vampire film Pattinson has participated in since he first started filming "Twilight" in 2007, and his character Tyler is a big step away from Edward Cullen. Tyler is a college student who is traumatized by his brother's suicide and is only brought back to reality after he becomes involved with Emilie de Ravin's character, Ally Craig.
"I looked at 'Remember Me' after the first 'Twilight' film, in the summer [of 2007], and met [director] Allen [Coulter] and [producer] Nick [Osborne] and just thought I really liked it and didn't know if anything was going to come of it," Pattinson reminisced. "And then, in the period between 'New Moon' and 'Eclipse,' I think there was two months or something, [I filmed 'Remember Me']."
The fact that the movie could be shot in such a short period of time and also involved very little prep work added to Pattinson's interest in the project. To him, "Remember Me" was a perfect fit, and also a perfect way to step into a character he had never played before.
"I never really played a normal guy before, and it was just that," Pattinson explained. "It was just a really solid story, and I had never really done that."
