Sarah Silverman returns to Comedy Central on Thursday night (February 4) for the start of the third season of "The Sarah Silverman Program." What's new for the show in 2010?
"I think we've matured, but we're also extra dumb," she told MTV News.
That about sums up Silverman's show, in which she plays a twisted, fictionalized version of herself alongside her real-life sister, Laura. Past seasons have seen the duo exploring themes of bestiality, AIDS, pot, adoption, lesbians, immigration and God — and doing it all for dark belly laughs.
Expect the new season to be no different, based on some teasers we got about upcoming episodes. In the premiere, Silverman said, "I found out I was born with both looks and personality. But I don't really. That's what my sister tells me. She cuts off my allowance to only what I absolutely need, and because of it, I'm unable to wax my face, and I grow a full mustache."
Further along in the season, she added, "There's an episode where my sister Laura and I have competing Holocaust memorials. Hers is really respectful with a monument made out of recovered Nazi gold. Mine is more fun. It's got that money air machine and stuff."
With all this boundary-pushing material, though, does anyone confuse Silverman with her on-camera doppelgänger? What's the difference between the two anyway?
"Fake Sarah Silverman is a total a--hole," she said with a smile, "and real Sarah Silverman is a really nice person."
