Spider-Man hasn't faced this much adversity since he battled Sandman, Venom and James Franco in his last movie. Now, the web-head's week from hell is getting worse — and it's only Tuesday.

Barely 24 hours after news broke that Sony and Marvel were putting the brakes on "Spider-Man 4" and saying goodbye to Sam Raimi's team, producers of a long-gestating Broadway musical about our friendly neighborhood web-slinger are being forced to offer refunds and pushing back their show's debut.

According to The Associated Press, producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" are offering to return the money to theatergoers who purchased advance tickets for the show, which had been expected to open February 25. Although they are quick to point out that "the production is moving forward" and a new schedule should be announced shortly, it is the latest in a long line of troubles for the show.

Now boasting a budget that is reportedly in the $50 million range, "Turn Off the Dark" was first announced some time ago but has been going full-speed ahead for over a year now with Evan Rachel Wood onboard to play Mary Jane, Alan Cumming as the Green Goblin and newcomer Reeve Carney as Peter Parker. Directed by "Across the Universe" filmmaker Julie Taymor, the high-profile project also features original songs written by U2's Bono and The Edge.

In August 2009, production was suspended due to "cash-flow problems," and now Playbill.com is speculating that the opening will actually occur in the final months of 2010.

"Ticketmaster is contacting ticket-holders impacted by the delay," a statement from the producers reads. "Anyone who has purchased tickets may request a refund from Ticketmaster immediately, or wait for the announcement of the new performance schedule at which time further details for new dates and exchanges will be announced."

News of the lavish musical's difficulties comes only one day after the eagerly anticipated fourth "Spider-Man" movie was scuttled, officially ending the spectacularly successful cinematic pairing of Raimi with stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Sony and Marvel have announced their intention to begin work on rebooting the movie franchise from its high school roots with all-new talent.
