Earlier this year, the Jackson brothers teamed up for their A&E miniseries "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, which premiered Sunday, but in the middle of the show's production they lost a vital member of the family, their superstar brother Michael. Even though they suffered a great loss, they decided to complete the show they had already started.
Still, they made sure they took much-needed time off from production to mourn the loss of their brother. "We took time off to mourn, a lot of time," Marlon told MTV News. "And what I should say is that we appreciate the fact that our production team gave us the time and made sure that we were ready to come back."
Marlon added that the crew behind the series, which will air in six one-hour parts and show the four remaining members of the Jackson 5 staging a comeback, never pressured them to immediately jump back in front of the cameras. "They didn't tell us when to [come back]," he said. "[They said,] 'Whenever you guys are ready let us know. We'll pick it up where we left off.' "
Jermaine noted that the show doesn't seek to capitalize on Michael's death. The brothers started working on it long before he passed away. Now, with Michael gone, it serves as a way for fans to see what life is like without him.
"Well, the show was into production way before Michael's passing. ... Even before we started in January the show was well into talks and sort of putting things together," he explained. "Michael just happened to pass during the time that we were heavily into it, so we stepped back and got a chance to mourn, and it still hasn't been enough time. ... We wanted to continue to do it, plus we felt it was a way to sort of give back to the fans and communicate to them on a one-on-one basis."
