According to new reports, the fight that led to the death of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss' fiancé, Ashley "A.J." Jewell, may have been started by Jewell because he felt he wasn't getting enough respect at the strip club where he was working, CBS News reports.

TMZ also reports that Jewell was walking and talking as he left the fight early Saturday morning at the Body Tap Club, where he had an altercation with suspect and co-worker Fredrick Richardson. Sources tell the Web site that Jewell opted not to take an ambulance to the hospital and instead rode with a friend.

The medical examiner has yet to release the cause of death, although it had previously been reported that Jewell died of a massive head injury. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office has told TMZ that his body showed signs of a physical altercation but that no stab wounds were found.

According to a family representative, Joyce Farley-Sands, Jewell was interested in purchasing a portion of the club. Atlanta PD Homicide Unit Chief Lt. Keith Meadows told CBS News that "Jewell had some words about a business decision. ... It seems like it was a struggle for power over the club. ... Apparently they just didn't like each other. A.J. felt like he deserved more respect from Richardson and it wasn't given to him."

Richardson has been arrested for voluntary manslaughter in Jewell's death and is currently being held without bail. He is due back in court on October 20.

In a statement released on Monday, Burruss said she is "devastated" by Jewell's death. "I had spoken to A.J. two hours before I got the call that he was in the hospital," Burruss said in her statement. "Never in a thousand years did I think it was going to be the last time I heard his voice. He was taken way too soon. There are so many things that I should have said to him, wanted to say to him, but now it's too late."
