Two days after her shocking appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," Mackenzie Phillips will return to the talk show for a live airing Friday, it was announced on the show Thursday (September 24).
During the program, which featured Jay-Z and Barbra Streisand, Oprah said, "You heard the bombshell from child star Mackenzie Phillips. Now she's back for the reaction, and her half-sister Chynna is speaking out."
It was not immediately clear if Chynna would appear in person on the show.
On Wednesday's show, Phillips discussed in detail her allegation of a decade-long incestuous affair with her father, John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas. "It started very early on in my life," she said. "And this was the mother of all difficult experiences. I was 17, 18. I wasn't a small child, but I'll tell you something, it was one of those things where you tell yourself, 'Don't look.' ... I felt so alone. And I think my father was not a bad man. It's kind of a testimony to what drugs and alcohol [do]."
Mackenzie said that while Chynna does not deny the allegations, her siblings are having a hard time with the publication of "High on Arrival," Mackenzie's memoir detailing her relationship with their father.
As the show went to a commercial break during Phillips' interview, Oprah read excerpts of a statement from Mackenzie's stepmother, Genevieve Waite Phillips, who was married to John when the abuse allegedly occurred.
"John was a good man who had the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction," the statement read. "He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, of having such a relationship with his own child."
