Aside from the provocative promotional video for his upcoming tour with Lady Gaga that he posted on his Web site on Wednesday, Kanye West has mostly stuck to his promise of laying low in the wake of his stage rush on Taylor Swift at the VMAs.
And according to TMZ, the rapper's lawyer may have made a move last week to further tamp down the furor over the incident by quietly asking that an upcoming court case be moved back until October.
The site reported that on Friday, West's lawyer went to the judge handling the case regarding West's 2008 airport scuffle with a photographer — which led to the rapper being charged with three misdemeanor counts of vandalism, theft and battery — and asked for a delay. Lawyer Blair Berk reportedly won that delay in a pre-trial hearing that was set for this month, but which has now been pushed back to October 23.
West has pleaded not guilty in the incident, which ended with his arrest — as well as that of his road manager, Don "Don C" Crowley — on September 11, 2008, at the Los Angeles International Airport. West and Crowley are alleged to have wrestled a camera out of the hand of a TMZ photographer who was trying to take the rapper's picture. Crowley is further alleged to have thrown the $10,000 camera to the ground and West to have smashed the photographer's flash. Berk could not be reached for comment at press time.
The delay still gives West plenty of time to prep for the "Fame Kills" tour with Gaga, which isn't slated to kick off until November 10.
