Eleven weeks after
In early July, less than two weeks after his passing, Jackson was reportedly to be buried at the Forest Lawn location in Hollywood Hills, California, but that ceremony never took place. The not-for-profit Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries actually administers several sites in the Los Angeles area.
According to its Web site, Forest Lawn was built in 1906. The Glendale location contains 13th-century stained glass, a bronze and marble statuary and re-creations of Renaissance-era art. CNN has reported that Jackson will be buried in the Great Mausoleum. The Forest Lawn Web site describes the mausoleum as inspired by the centuries-old Campo Santo in Genoa, Italy.
The mausoleum is normally open to tourists but has been closed since Wednesday and will reportedly open again Friday. A report in Los Angeles' Daily News says celebrities buried at the Glendale location include Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Spencer Tracy, Sammy Davis Jr. and Walt Disney. It is not yet known what type of access tourists will have to Jackson's grave site. The CNN report indicates that the mausoleum is closely watched by security guards and cameras.
TMZ obtained a bill from Forest Lawn requesting payment for various funeral charges, including security, barricades and the "temporary invaultment" of Jackson's body since early July. The total cost had been redacted, but a Jackson family lawyer stated in court that the total cost would be "extraordinary."
