And we're betting that fans are already crossing their fingers that the stars' appearance this year will be longer than their controversial showing at the 2008 VMAs, especially given the fact that Russell Brand is back in the hosting seat.
All the trouble started when Cam Gigandet, Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner were all set to introduce "Twilight" soundtrack band Paramore for their big performance at the fake Whiskey a Go Go set. Although Stewart, Gigandet and Lautner all got to say their lines, when it came time for Pattinson to get his line out, Brand jumped in and presented the band, cutting off the man who plays Edward Cullen.
Pattinson was only able to say "Please welcome ..." before Paramore began to play, and the unscripted moment immediately angered Twilighters. They vented on MTVNews.com and the MTV Movies blog as soon as it aired.
"[Russell Brand] insulted all 'Twilight' fans," a Twilighter named Sukiyaki wrote. "MTV, I hope you have enough space to house all the hate mails about Russell Brand."
Although the Twilight fans may not have been happy with the error, Paramore couldn't have been more pleased by their opportunity to play the big show. "That was amazing," bassist Jeremy Davis said after the show. "Honestly, it flew by. I really don't even remember being up there."
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place September 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Additional celebrity presenters and performers will be announced in the coming weeks. To be the first to find out the inside scoop, follow the Inside MTV Twitter account at Twitter.com/InsideMTV.
