The press release announcing the switch said that Lefevre was forced to give up the role due to unspecified "scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made." Director David Slade is slated to start filming "Eclipse" in Vancouver in August. The third movie based on Stephenie Meyer's series is due in theaters in June 2010.
"We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise," said Erik Feig, president of worldwide production and acquisitions for one of the film's producers, Summit Entertainment. "Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life, and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role."
Both actresses have flaming red hair, blue eyes and appropriately alabaster skin, so perhaps hardcore fans will not revolt too much over the switch. (Who are we kidding?) Howard, daughter of legendary child actor/director Ron Howard ("Frost/Nixon," "Angels & Demons"), was most recently seen in "Terminator Salvation" and has also appeared in the films "The Village" and "Lady in the Water." She steps into the Victoria role just as the evil vampire's part in the epic heats up when she summons an army of vampires against Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, whom she blames for the death of her mate, James. Howard will also get some screen time with another "Twilight" newcomer, Xavier Samuel, whose newbie vamp Riley will be her latest conquest.
