After being hospitalized and reportedly placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold on July 15 for "medical issues," former "O.C." star Mischa Barton has been released from the hospital.
"She was released early last week and has been improving since with the intention of resuming production with the rest of the cast [of her CW show 'The Beautiful Life']," her rep told MTV News, though he did not confirm why Barton was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
"I can tell you right now, Mischa Barton is doing great," Ashton Kutcher, one of the show's creators, told reporters at a technology conference in California, according to Us Weekly.
Rumors began swirling last week that the network was looking into a "plan B" in case Barton wouldn't be well enough to head back to work on the show later this week. A rep for the network had no comment about the report at the time but a week prior told MTV News that Barton's hospitalization would have no effect on the show's production.
According to People.com, a friend of the actress said Barton had "been dealing with a lot of personal issues" around the time of the hospitalization. The source admitted uncertainty about whether Barton, who was sentenced to three years' probation for a DUI in 2008, is completely healthy: "I don't know if she really ever gave up some of the bad habits that had gotten out of control a couple years back."
