On Tuesday, the world seemed to stop to watch the moving, celebrity-filled Michael Jackson tribute held at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The memorial featured performances from some of Jackson's closest friends and colleagues, including Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Usher. It also included an incredibly poignant and reportedly unscripted speech from Jackson's 11-year-old daughter, Paris.
Many celebrities who weren't onstage took to their Twitter accounts to react to the memorial. "Michael's children were so brave brave [to] stand there on stage & speak to the world about their father," Kim Kardashian wrote. "I spoke at my dad's funeral & it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I was shaking & crying & what Paris did was sooo soooo brave!"
Friends of the late Jackson also wrote about him on Twitter. "Remembering MJ and the true legend that he was and will live on to be," Paula Abdul tweeted. "I'm taking some time to reflect today."
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest wrote, "This makes the world feel so small ... everyone connected right now. ... Staples Center was the center of the universe today. It's a great venue. They did the MJ tribute early today. ... His daughter Paris Michael Katherine called him best father in the world. Play one of his songs tonight at home."
Like many who watched the tribute, Kelly Osbourne was moved by the strength that Paris and her two brothers displayed during the memorial. "MJ's children are so brave to stand up there and remember their father while the whole world is watching!" she tweeted. "My heart just broke watching Michael's daughter speak. What a brave, brave little girl."
Nick Cannon, whose wife, Mariah Carey, performed her now legendary cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" with Trey Lorenz at the memorial, wrote, "A day of mourning. Here in the Staples Center, God is absolutely present."
Larry King, who has been covering every aspect of Jackson's unexpected passing, tweeted that he hopes the memorial will bring some closure for everyone. "I was surprised MJ's body was there, but it was very touching. Al Sharpton gave such a commanding speech, so dramatic in tone & content. There was so much emotion when Usher & Brooke Shields took the stage. This has all been phenomenal, but I hope the stories die down soon. Let's let him have some peace."
Starlets and pop stars were also moved by the tribute. "In tears watching the MJ Memorial Service on TV, so touching," Paris Hilton wrote. "Everyone loves you, Michael!"
"Michael Jackson will forever inspire my soul and forever live in my heart," singer Brandy said on her Twitter. "He is an angel that can now see his wings. R.I.P."
