Controversial pageant queen Carrie Prejean is losing her Miss California crown due to breach of contract, according to a statement from the Miss California USA organization.

"This was a decision based solely on contract violations including Ms. Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," says the statement from Keith Lewis, executive director of K2 Productions, which produces the pageant. "After our press conference in New York, we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together."

Prejean first made news during the Miss USA pageant, when, in response to a question from judge Perez Hilton, she declared her opposition to gay marriage. After risqué photos of Prejean surfaced online, the organization's owner, Donald Trump announced in May that she would be allowed to keep her crown. But it seems that Trump has now given the OK to fire Prejean.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization, and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said in the statement. "Unfortunately, it just doesn't look like it is going to happen, and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision."

First runner-up Tami Ferrell will assume the role of Miss California, the organization said.

Former Miss California pageant director Shanna Moakler welcomed the news. "First and foremost, my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump," said the former Miss USA, who quit her position in May after Trump announced that Prejean would keep her crown.

According to a Fox News source, Prejean plans to write a book and pursue other opportunities.
