But the environmental spirit was with
"17 Again" was the one sophomore holdout, staying strong at #2 with $11.7 million, bringing its total gross to $40 million. "State of Play" and "Crank: High Voltage" had a steeper drop, falling to #7 and #10 respectively, while the five-week champion "Monsters vs. Aliens" just barely slid to #6 with another $8.5 million.
Overall, the box office is starting the spring season out on a high note with $114 million and a total of $1.1 billion, 20 percent higher than spring 2008. The past five weekends have seen the industry break records and outdo itself, boding well for the summer blockbuster season.
Upcoming Releases
Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" kick-starts summer on May 1, alongside Lionsgate's animated "Battle for Terra" and the romantic comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" from Warner Bros.
