Apparently these days it's sort of a faux pas to call Dwayne Johnson "The Rock." Of course, that moniker may have helped him rise to fame in the world of professional wrestling, but now the
"I had a lot of fun," Johnson told MTV News of his stint. "I love our president. 'SNL' is such an institution, such a great institution for comedy."
In the sketch, which aired on Saturday, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel (Andy Samberg) gets frustrated that the always-cool Barack Obama (played by Fred Armisen) won't get ever get mad. He fantasizes about the president finally embracing his inner fury, busting out of his clothing like the Hulk and morphing into Johnson during a meeting with Republican members of Congress. While tossing Will Forte and Kristen Wiig out of the Oval Office window, Johnson did a spot-on (albeit monosyllabic) Obama impression.
"When I was there, we talked about the idea of doing the Rock Obama," Johnson explained. "Like, what happens if Barack Obama got angry, turned into the Hulk and turned into the Rock Obama?"
Now that Johnson has gotten to play the president on "SNL," is it only a matter of time before he follows in the footsteps of fellow former wrestler Jesse Ventura and enters the political circle for real? Not he if can help it.
"That's interesting," he said, pretending to ponder the question. "Honestly, all joking aside, there are other minds out there who are better equipped to run our country. I serve our country [by entertaining] and making movies. If called to serve, that's a different story."
