Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said Akon was not present when the fight occurred at the W Scottsdale Hotel, though the singer had been in town to attend NBA All-Star Game and several celebrity parties.
According the report, Scottsdale police were called to the hotel at around 3:30 a.m., after two groups reportedly exchanged heated words at a private party on the hotel's second floor. Officers saw Knight punched in the face twice by 38-year-old Robert Carnes Jr., who later told authorities he works for Akon. Knight was being treated for face injuries at the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn.
"It broke out and was over in a few seconds," Clark said. Police have not been able to confirm what started the fight, the Republic further reports.
Police booked Carnes and a man identified as 33-year-old Thomas Leon Anderson Jr. on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct.
Back in November, Knight was booked on two felony drug charges and one misdemeanor battery charge. The charges stem from an incident in which police allege that they witnessed Knight beating his girlfriend while holding a knife over her in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip on August 27. The drug charges are related to Knight's alleged possession of ecstasy and hydrocodone on the night of the incident.
