It seems that if Katie Couric and Justin Timberlake had to do one activity together, it might as well be Timberlake's go-to pastime, golf. So, before sitting down for Couric's "All Access Grammy Special" airing Wednesday night on CBS, they hit the links.

After Timberlake assured Couric that she looked good on the golf course, he explained why he keeps working with Timbaland. "I definitely have a musical kinship with [him]," he said. "We definitely have a crazy chemistry in the studio. It's like two painters go in, and somebody slaps a color on the canvas, and the other starts working with it."

Timberlake is no stranger to working in the producer role himself. He has produced hits for superstars like Madonna, a concept that still amazes him. "It's just kind of crazy to me that I get paid to sort of tell these people my opinions," he said. "That's really what a producer is. It's very personal to have that experience with somebody."

Timberlake, who'll take the stage with T.I. at Sunday night's Grammy Awards, has also been actively pursuing an acting career in recent years. He told Couric that he's baffled by the fact that people still don't believe that he takes acting seriously.

"I think pop culture has done a number on creativity, because for me to make that statement, I get the reaction: 'Really?' " he said. "It's like, 'Yeah, why wouldn't I?' The opportunity is there. It's sort of like, I have a day job, and this becomes a hobby [that] I can plunge into with full creative eagerness."

Of course, the conversation wasn't all about Timberlake's serious craft. "Put any grown man in a leotard and that's already funny," JT laughed when Couric asked about his "SNL" "Single Ladies" sketch with Beyoncé. "We couldn't go anywhere but up from there."
