We've been proud to share with you some of the best interviews we've done with actors and filmmakers over the last year. But it wouldn't be fair to deny you some of the moments that had us cringing and laughing (or both) in 2007, particularly when those moments star everyone from Hugh Grant to Corey Haim. These are the interviews that went off the rails somewhere along the line. And isn't that when things get most interesting?
10. Eli Roth When we shadowed "Hostel" director Eli Roth for a day at New York's Comic-Con, we knew we'd see some strange things, but nothing prepared us (or Eli) for the sight of Gary Coleman working the crowd. Roth got so excited, he did a little dance for us — nearly as shocking as anything in "Hostel: Part II."
What you didn't see: Roth ran into an old college friend on the convention floor. It took the director a second to recognize his buddy, though — as he was dressed as a giant banana.
9. Joaquin Phoenix
The Oscar-nominated star of "Walk the Line" is a notoriously tough interview, but that didn't stop this intrepid writer from asking him about appearing in the camp classic "SpaceCamp" when he was just starting out. Unfortunately, Phoenix didn't share my fondness for the film, cutting off the conversation with a tense, "Enough is enough."
What you didn't see: Phoenix was a bundle of nerves in this interview, shifting around in his seat, taking a sip of water every 30 seconds and even jumping out of his chair to adjust this interviewer's wardrobe.
8. Hugh Grant
Just as Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant were adjusting themselves for a probing chat with our own Jennifer Vineyard, the usually debonair Grant actually drooled. You read that right. The always-sweet Barrymore chimed in with a supportive, "I'm going to get you a bib."
What you didn't see: Drew continued to chide Grant, saying, "You're like an old man at a cafeteria."
7. Jason Bateman
When you're chatting about a wholesome G-rated film like "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," there are certain turns of phrase you don't expect to hear. We'll let you watch it for yourself but suffice it to say, this quote could be rated NC-17.
What you didn't see: Bateman described at length his role as an OxyContin-abusing, Mohawk-sporting club owner in the upcoming Russell Crowe/ Ed Norton film "State of Play." Frankly, we're still not sure if he was joking.
6. Michael Caine
He may be a "Sir," but that doesn't mean the great Michael Caine can't sound as insane as the rest of us. In an interview alongside Jude Law to promote "Sleuth," the Oscar winner let out such a strange giggle, it mesmerized the MTV Movies team for weeks.
What you didn't see: When asked if he had any interest in appearing in a "Harry Potter" film, Caine responded indignantly, "Those are children's films! I don't watch children's films!"
5. Justin Long
The Mac ad star shot to the top of our list of most candid interview subjects ever when he shared with us a graphic story from the set of "Accepted." Here are three words to haunt your dreams: "flood of diarrhea." Don't say we didn't warn you.
What you didn't see: Long had an unusual vision for the future of the "Die Hard" franchise. His choice to play the next villain? Paris Hilton. Yippie-ki-yay, that's hot!
4. Corey Haim
When the long-lost star of "The Lost Boys" walks into your office, suffice it to say there's an air of unpredictability. But even we were shocked when Haim described how he lost 100-plus pounds with a plan that involved Frisbee, watermelon and maple syrup. We've been shaking our heads in disbelief ever since.
What you didn't see: Haim's account of his brief relationship with Victoria Beckham included an intriguing, if horrible, imitation of Geri Halliwell.
3. Tim Kash and Chris Evans
Not even Johnny Storm could save MTV's own Tim Kash when a light fell on him midway through their chat. Dr. Doom was nowhere to be found. The investigation remains open.
What you didn't see: After the light fell, no one in the crew moved to help Tim for at least 10 seconds. Laziness or shock? You decide.
2. Paul Rudd
It's one of those silly questions we sometimes ask celebrities when we're just fishing for something interesting: What frightens you? Luckily, when you ask a witty actor like Paul Rudd, you get gold like this rant about how much he hates condiments and blames his mother for enabling his fears. "You ruined my life," he said in a special message just for her.
What you didn't see: Rudd's fascinating account of his days as a bar mitzvah DJ.
1. Carl Weathers
The man who will always be Apollo Creed and Action Jackson certainly came to MTV ready to play. Witness his impromptu proclamation that he is running to be king of the country (?!?). You'd think that would be enough to top our bizarre moments list, but it's Weathers' crazy sweating that truly puts this moment on top.
What you didn't see: All right, we feel kind of horrible for pointing out Carl's, ahem, problem, especially because he graciously took a photo with just about every MTV News employee in the office during his visit with us. We love you, Carl!
