NEW YORK — Leave it to RZA to make a classic observation: Jesus walked on water, and Method Man walks on crowds. That's right, the Ticallion Stallion demonstrated the fearless agility of a tightrope walker as he balanced on fans' hands at the jam-packed Hammerstein Ballroom Tuesday night.

The Wu-Tang Clan were back in their hometown, and wouldn't you know it, the show fell on Valentine's Day. It's been years since the Wu performed in the city, so Tuesday's show left many die-hard male fans with one heck of dilemma: wild out at the Hammerstein or go cupcaking (that's slang for lovers hugging up) with their girl. Well, a lot of them compromised and brought their shorties to the concert. While some of the women appeared a little disenchanted (their dirty looks seemed to indicate their men would have to sit through several seasons of "Desperate Housewives" to make up for it), most of them heeded to Method Man's calls for "Energy!"

(Check out photos from the show.)

The Clan hit the stage one at a time as the crowd's anticipation built. U-God, Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck started by performing solo records, and then RZA elevated the enthusiasm with his "Pop Shots." "Double-barrel shotgun, pop son," RZA yelled. "I told n---a, just not run!"

The rest of the Clan all came out with solo records, but it was Ghostface who got the loudest ovation when her performed "Ghost Deni." "Marvin, Marvin, you were a friend of mine/ You stood for something/ Tupac, Biggie, oh how we miss you so/ We want y'all both to know/ We really love you so."

The Clan basically followed up with nothing but Wu bangers from their catalog: "Bring Da Ruckus," "Criminology," "Da Mystery of Chessboxin' " and "Clan in Da Front."

As powerful as the Wu are as a collective, it was obvious they were missing an integral part of their Voltron formation without Ol' Dirty Bastard. A couple of songs, like "Protect Ya Neck," had to be cut short when Dirty's part was about to come on.

Meth informed his hometown crowd that the show was not to going to be melancholy and the Clan would not be mourning Dirty (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard's Death Stuns And Saddens His Peers") — rather, they would be celebrating. The Wu called for everyone to light their lighters and shine their cell-phone displays as "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" played. Meth then called for Dirty's mom, Cherry, to come to the stage and they played "Brooklyn Zoo."

The Wu show had its share of comical moments, too, with the Clan all running around the stage like fugitives during Ghost's "Run." Tony Starks also took time out to admonish some of the fans for supporting music he deemed to be "wack." Although he didn't name any artists or songs, he had the DJ play D4L's "Laffy Taffy" and the crowd booed. Ghost did his best Fabo impression and danced the snap-music dance.

After Wu-Tang's current tour, Ghostface will go out on his own starting March 5 in Millvale, Pennsylvania, and ending April 23 in Buffalo, New York. Ghost's Fishscale LP is due March 28. Meanwhile, Raekwon is in the lab working on his Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 LP with RZA (see "Raekwon Linx Up With Busta, RZA; Wu-Tang Dedicate Tour To ODB "), and Method Man is recording for a solo LP as well.
