Jack and Meg return with their gnarled stomp and a much buzzed-about album, Trent Reznor's viciousness remains intact, and there ain't no getting around Rob Thomas' way with an ultra-catchy hook. Here are this week's tunes.

1. The White Stripes - "Blue Magnolia"

The first track taken from the Detroit duo's forthcoming Get Behind Me Satan unleashes Jack White's Curtis Mayfield falsetto on a filthy '70s riff straight out of Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

2. Buck 65 - "Craftsmanship"

The Nova Scotia MC suggests that hip-hop can address any subject matter by running some intriguing rhymes about the step-by-step process of keeping one's shoes correctly shined. Extra points for the vehemence of the delivery, which sounds as earnest as Eminem on "Lose Yourself."

3. The Ying Yang Twins - "Wait (The Whisper Song)"

This Atlanta twosome hijacks the "Drop It Like It's Hot" knockoff and proceeds to turn the air blue with a filthy ode to fulfilling their biological imperative.

4. Martha Wainwright - "Bloody Motherf***ing A**hole"

A screed against the limitations that some parents place on some kids, full of the self-assuredness it take to flip off your dad while strumming an acoustic guitar and having your whisper become a scream.

5. Nine Inch Nails - "The Hand That Feeds"

Reznor returns from sabbatical with an exquisitely constructed industrial-pop anthem, even if the inevitable bile sounds a little forced coming from a 39-year-old millionaire.

6. 22-20s - "Devil In Me"

What if Jet joined the White Stripes? The stomp-down would be more fun, the guitar crud would be a bit thicker. Batton down the hatches.

7. Beck - "Que'Onda Guero"

Hippie Anglo strolls around the barrios of L.A., amazed at the all the cornerside characters, but even more amazed at the poetry of their beats.

8. Louis XIV - "Finding Out True Love is Blind"

Drawing inspiration from the classic post punk of the Fall and the Buzzcocks, Louis X1V mix snarled vocals with a gritty, addictive groove. Add some half-leering, half-horny lyrics and you've got a track that makes you feel sexy in that down and dirty kinda way.

9. Rob Thomas - "Lonely No More"

You wouldn't be caught dead listening to it in front of your music savvy friends - it's major pop fluff. However, it's one of those big songs that you can't avoid, and the hook is so infectious you just don't care. When it comes to writing hits, the Matchbox 20 singer-songwriter is the man. Plus he's so damn nice that you can't trash talk his song craft.

10. My Chemical Romance - "Helena"

Angst, soaring pop hooks, and a serious flirtation with both hardcore punk and four-to-the-floor house. The combination is irresistible to both the teenage depressives and the club-going set.
