For months, Weezer have kept fans updated on the ins and outs of their fifth album, Make Believe, via updates on their Web site. But there's one bit of info you won't find posted anywhere on Weezer.com: details on the band's upcoming North American tour.
Luckily, a spokesperson at Geffen Records has slipped the dates to MTV News, and if you're a fan of the Weez — and you live in cities like Vancouver, San Francisco, Toronto, Philadelphia or Atlanta — then you're in luck, because the gods of geek-rock will be packing their pocket protectors and playing those cities (and a host of others) as part of a 12-city jaunt that kicks off April 26.
According to Geffen, tickets for the tour could go on sale as early as this week, and venues will be announced shortly.
If you do snag tickets to the shows — Weezer's first gigs in almost three years — make sure to check out their new, way-mature black-and-white getups. At least that's what the guys are sporting on the cover of Make Believe, which features a monochrome photo of the group standing in a line — à la the covers of the classic Blue Album and the not-so-classic Green Album — with an illustrated serpent-dragon-thingy in the background.
The album is due May 10, and the first single, "Beverly Hills," will be hitting airwaves later this month. The Marcos Siega-directed video for the song, which features the band cavorting at the Playboy Mansion (see "Weezer Party At Playboy Mansion For 'Beverly Hills' Video"), is close to being completed and should see the light of day soon.
