Lindsey Cardinale chose the upbeat "Knock on Wood" for '60s week on "American Idol," but the 20-year-old from Ponchatoula, Louisiana (population 5,180), failed to win over the judges, who were never kind to her in the semifinals. In the end, America agreed and Cardinale was the first "Idol" finalist eliminated.

MTV: You're from a small town — do you think that hurt you in that you didn't have a big city behind you in the voting?

Lindsey Cardinale: No, I don't. I just went out there and sang to the best of my ability and, you know, big city, little city, no city, everybody gains fans [whether the people at home] know the person or not.

MTV: Country music is your thing — why didn't we see more of that from you?

Cardinale: Just because I wanted to challenge myself. When I'm at home, that's what I sing. But when I'm at home, I don't have an "American Idol" stage like that, so I just wanted to take advantage of that, do something different.

MTV: You apparently love to color in coloring books. Did you color Simon anything for his refrigerator?

Cardinale: No, I didn't. I do love to color, though.

MTV: What's next for you?

Cardinale: I just want to keep singing. I'm definitely not going to give up. This is my dream and it definitely does not end here. I'm just gonna keep singing and pursuing this dream of mine.
