With a new single in tow, the Strokes will hit the road for a 20-city North American tour that kicks off March 9 in Washington, D.C.
The seven-week trek then takes the New York quintet through the South and toward the West Coast before heading back east to wrap up April 25 in Minneapolis, according to the band's publicist. Tickets go on sale Saturday.
Before they hit the road, the Strokes will shoot a video for their new single, "Reptilia," with director Jake Scott, who's helmed clips for Pink and Soundgarden but is perhaps best known for directing R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" in 1992. The shoot is scheduled for Sunday and Monday in New York.
The band is also scheduled to play a benefit for VH1's Save the Music Foundation on Thursday in West Hollywood, California.
On the heels of "12:51," "Reptilia" is the second single from the Strokes' second album, Room on Fire, released in October. The tension-building tune, focusing on Albert Hammond Jr.'s driving guitar lines, surfaced on radio three weeks ago. A 7-inch single with the B-side "Modern Girls and Old Fashion Men," a new song with newcomer Regina Spektor, is set to drop Tuesday. Fans who caught the Strokes on their previous North American tour may remember Spektor as the Russian-born, classically trained musician who opened most shows and joined the band for "Modern Girls" toward the end of their set.
