Though "Finding Nemo" just broke the weekend opening record for an animated flick with its $70.6 million take, there's no reason to feel sorry for the previous title holder's creators. The latest Disney/ Pixar Studios collaboration merely grabbed the position from the highly profitable pair's last venture together, 2001's "Monsters, Inc." (Click for photos from "Finding Nemo.")

The cartoon flick about a clownfish searching for his son was the fourth film this month to open at more than $60 million, a list that includes "X2: X-Men United," "The Matrix Reloaded," and "Bruce Almighty," which fell to #2 over the weekend with $35.6 million. The Jim Carrey-led comedy has taken in $135.7 million since it was released last week, according to studio estimates.

"The Matrix Reloaded" continued its downward spiral with a $15 million take — down 60 percent from last weekend, which was down 50.3 percent from the flick's opening the weekend before that. The first of this year's two sequels to the 1999 original has made $232 million in the last three weeks. "X2" edged closer to the $200 million mark, taking in $5 million for a $199.2 five-week total.

Meanwhile, the weekend's other new widely released film didn't fare nearly as well as "Nemo," though the ensemble heist remake "The Italian Job" generated a nevertheless impressive $19.3 million to land at #3, while the Eliza Dushku-led horror flick, "Wrong Turn," was #7 with $5 million.

The rest of the weekend's top 10 includes Eddie Murphy's "Daddy Day Care" at #5 with $6.8 million ($81.9 million, four weeks); "The In-Laws" at #8 with $3.6 million ($14.4 million, two weeks); "Down With Love" at #9 with $1.5 million ($17.1 million, four weeks); and "Bend It Like Beckham" at #10 with $1 million ($19.1 million, 12 weeks), edging out "The Lizzie McGuire" movie by a fraction. Hilary Duff's first major starring vehicle has made $39.2 million, more than twice its reported budget, in just five weeks of release.
