A swimming accident that injured drummer Neil Primrose has forced Scottish rockers Travis to cancel a handful of European dates.
Primrose was knocked unconscious while swimming on Sunday and was rescued by his bandmates singer/guitarist Fran Healy, bassist Douglas Payne and guitarist Andy Dunlop according to a statement issued by the group.
The potentially fatal incident occurred after Travis concluded a week of European shows with an appearance at the Belfort Festival in France.
"Whilst relaxing in the pool ... Primrose struck his head and was knocked unconscious," the statement reads. "After realizing his predicament, other band and crew members dragged Neil from the pool and gave him assistance. He was taken by ambulance to the local hospital in Belfort to receive treatment and undergo tests. Early indications suggest that Neil has sustained a fracture on one of his vertebrae, and [he] is still in the hospital in France undergoing further tests."
The band has canceled appearances in Italy and France scheduled for next week. They had been touring behind The Invisible Band, last year's collection of earnest, mellow anthems that includes the singles "Sing" and "Side."
A spokesperson for Epic, the band's U.S. label, said the group could not be reached for comment.
