In the wake of their successful reunion tour last year, alternative rock icons Jane's Addiction have scheduled studio time to work on their first new album in more than a decade.

Jane's Addiction, minus bassist Eric Avery, who will be replaced by Porno for Pyros bassist Martyn Le Noble, will write and record material at an undisclosed studio in early March, guitarist Dave Navarro said Thursday.

"The tour went really well and that's why," Navarro said. "We're all at an age where we have other opportunities and we wouldn't do anything that didn't feel good."

Navarro said he, singer Perry Farrell, Le Noble and drummer Stephen Perkins have ideas they will bring to the table for a test run at recording an album. They also have a big-name producer booked, though Navarro would not reveal his identity, noting, "It's a special surprise."

Farrell, who formed Porno for Pyros after Jane's Addiction first split in 1992, and Navarro, who joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers for a brief stint in the mid-'90s, released very different solo albums last year. Farrell's Song Yet to Be Sung is an uplifting electronica collection (see "Across The Universe: Perry Farrell Beams Down First Solo LP"), while Navarro's Trust No One is a gloomy rock album (see "Dave Navarro Opens Up On Trust No One").

"They're very different, but if you can imagine the two blending together you would see what Jane's was and how it came to sound the way it did," Navarro said. "Hopefully [the new material] will sound like an updated version of the old stuff."

Jane's Addiction played for the first time since 1997 last spring at the second Coachella festival and at a warm-up gig for it (see ). They launched the six-week Jubilee 2001 Tour in October (see "Jane's Addiction Return To The Garden: Less Talk, More Rock").

Navarro said Thursday he is also planning to record a second solo album this year.
