After taking a shot at acting, Lisa Loeb is returning to music with the follow-up to 1997's Firecracker next month.
Cake and Pie as in the answer to "Would you like cake or pie?," as in a metaphor for striving for everything possible will hit record stores on February 26, according to a spokesperson for the singer.
Loeb, whose "Stay" from "Reality Bites" and "I Do" from Firecracker were unavoidable radio hits, teamed with several songwriters and producers for her third album, including Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette), Randy Scruggs (Emmylou Harris), Peter Collins (Jewel), Jack Joseph Puig (Black Crowes), Bob Clearmountain (Bryan Adams) and her boyfriend, Dweezil Zappa.
Cake and Pie's first single, "Someone You Should Know," about looking within to find happiness, will hit radio outlets later this month.
Loeb's spokesperson described the 12 tracks on the album as blending pop with rock riffs and folk flavors. One of the tracks, "We Could Still Belong Together," appeared in the film and on the soundtrack to the 2001 hit comedy "Legally Blonde."
In recent years, the Buddy Holly specs-clad singer has appeared on "The Drew Carey Show" and "The Chris Isaak Show," and played a TV reporter in the 1999 remake of "House on Haunted Hill" (see "Marilyn Manson Out Of 'Haunted' Flick, But Still Has Plans For Lisa Loeb").
Loeb and her band, Nine Stories, will promote Cake and Pie with a North American tour, her spokesperson said. Dates have not been announced.
