The moving "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon that aired September 21 will be released in its entirety on CD, DVD and VHS on December 4.
Emotional performances from U2, Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews and more will be released on the two-disc set and video, which will include commentary from Muhammad Ali, Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Will Smith and others.
As was the case with the two-hour tribute, all of the performers, their representatives and the five major record label conglomerates involved in these projects (Bertelsmann Music Group, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group) are waiving all rights and fees.
Proceeds from the America: A Tribute to Heroes record and video will be given to the September 11 Telethon Fund of the United Way.
The September 21 telethon, which aired on 35 broadcast and cable networks and 8,000 radio stations, raised $150 million for the organization (see "Springsteen, U2 Help Raise $150 Million For Victims' Families").
"America: A Tribute to Heroes" was broadcast in 210 countries and was viewed by an estimated 100 million people, according to organizers. The album and video from the telethon will be released internationally on December 3.
