Ja Rule will reign supreme on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart, as his third album, Pain Is Love, will debut at #1 on the heels of his hit single "Livin' It Up."
The follow-up to last year's Rule 3:36 sold more than 360,000 copies in its first week of release, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (October 10).
Jay-Z, who had held the top slot for the last three weeks with The Blueprint, will drop to #2 with more than 147,000 in weekly sales, while Enya's A Day Without Rain will continue to take root near the top of the chart, landing at #3 and selling more than 128,000 copies to bring its total to more than 2.8 million after 46 weeks on the chart. Her album's single "Only Time" has been among the songs used to raise spirits following September's terrorist attacks.
Garbage aren't ready to be set out curbside just yet, as Shirley Manson and company's Beautifulgarbage, the group's first album since 1998's Version 2.0, will debut at #13, moving just slightly more than 73,000 copies. Elton John's recent headlines from his Robert Downey Jr.-starring video for "I Want Love" and upcoming appearance on "Ally McBeal" (see "Elton John Goes To 'Ally McBeal' Happy Hour; Bon Jovi May Take Role") helped push his Songs From the West Coast to debut at #15, with more than 70,000 copies sold.
Other notable debuts include Billy Joel's greatest-hits set, The Essential Billy Joel, which will debut at #29, and Gary Allan's Alright Guy, which will find itself at #39. The Grand Pecking Order, by improvisational supergroup Oysterhead (Phish's Trey Anastasio, Primus' Les Claypool and the Police's Stewart Copeland), is keeping jam-band fans swimming while Phish are on hiatus, landing at #48 (see "Three Oysterheads Are Better Than One").
Next week's top 10 will look like a shuffled version of last week's positions, with most albums sliding slightly down the chart. Alicia Keys' Songs in A Minor will drop two spots to #4; Nickelback's Silver Side Up will remain at #5; the various-artists compilation Totally Hits 2001 will slip three places to #6; Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory will hold its ground at #7; Usher's 8701 will move up a place to #8; P.O.D.'s Satellite will fall three slots to #9; and Staind's Break the Cycle will lose two places to land at #10.
