Though the group's name is short for Payable on Death, P.O.D. fans luckily won't have to wait that long to cash in on the fruits of the band's labor.
The San Diego quartet is eyeing a September 11 release date for its second major-label album, Satellite, according to an Atlantic Records spokesperson.
The group is putting the finishing touches on the LP in a Sherman Oaks, California, studio with Howard Benson, who's co-producing the disc with the band (see "P.O.D. Begin Work On New Album"). Benson, whose previous credits include Less Than Jake and Motörhead, also helmed the band's last album, 1999's The Fundamental Elements of Southtown. More than 17 new songs were prepared for the disc, though it's not known how many will actually make the final cut. Among the tracks chosen so far are "Alive," which will serve as the album's first single, "Without Jah Nothing," featuring guest vocals from H.R. of legendary hardcore band Bad Brains, and an as-yet-untitled track with a cameo from Jamaican toaster Eek-a-Mouse.
The band also received a little help from its fans. Twenty "warriors," as P.O.D. followers are affectionately known, contribute backing vocals to "Youth of the Nation." It's not all work and no play for the religious rock-rappers, however. A handful of radio festivals and one-off dates pepper the group's summer schedule, among them Friday's gig at the Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, Illinois.
