Students at a suburban California high school were treated to a surprise a cappella performance from Stevie Wonder at their commencement ceremony on Saturday.

Wonder appeared at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, as a graduation present to his son, Mumtaz Morris, whom few at the school knew was related to the singer, born Steveland Morris.

The celebrated crooner sang "Stay Gold," which he wrote for Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film, "The Outsiders," according to a Motown Records publicist.

Wonder also delivered some encouraging words to the departing seniors, including reciting some of the lyrics to the song, such as "Seize upon that moment long ago/ One breath away and there you will be/ So young and carefree again you will see."
