Instead of going the route of singer Belinda Carlisle, who will appear nude in the August issue of Playboy, her Go-Go's bandmates are taking a more traditional approach to promoting the group's first new album in 17 years — they're going on tour.

Carlisle and the rest of the band — singer/guitarist Jane Wiedlin, guitarist Charlotte Caffey, drummer Gina Schock and bassist Kathy Valentine — released God Bless the Go-Go's last week, and it'll debut at #57 on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart. The tour kicks off Friday at the WPLJ-FM Summer Blast Off show in New York.

"Unforgiven," the album's first single, was co-written by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who also plays guitar and provides background vocals on the track (see "Go-Go's, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Pairing On Single").

The Go-Go's — known for such hits as "We Got the Beat," "Vacation" and "Head Over Heels" — haven't released a new album since 1984's Talk Show, but they have regrouped several times over the years to tour and release best-of collections.
