With their single "Hash Pipe" climbing the charts, last week's release of their first new album in five years and a recent "Saturday Night Live" appearance under their belts, why should the guys in Weezer slow down now? They'll perform at the 2001 MTV Movie Awards, to be taped June 2 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for broadcast June 7.
The Rivers Cuomo-led outfit's performance is the third to be announced for this year's awards. Also scheduled are the Dave Matthews Band and the one-time performance of "Lady Marmalade" by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and Pink (see "'Lady Marmalade,' Dave Matthews To Hit MTV Movie Awards Stage.") No word yet on whether Weezer will play the hard-rocking "Hash Pipe," which they performed on "Saturday Night Live" May 19, or another tune from their recently released Weezer, a.k.a. The Green Album (see "Weezer Drought Turns Into A Flood").
Also announced Monday were Movie Awards nominations for Bruce Springsteen and Ozzy Osbourne, who are both up for Best Cameo in a Movie. The Boss appeared in John Cusack's fantasy in "High Fidelity," while Ozzy showed up in the Adam Sandler film "Little Nicky." Fans can vote for their favorite MTV Movie Awards nominees at MTV.com.
