Destiny's Child top the list of music nominees for the first BET Awards, with nods for Best Female Group, Video of the Year and the Viewers' Choice Award. Outkast, Janet Jackson, Nelly, Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild each earned two nominations.
D-Child will go up against Mary Mary, 3LW, 702 and Blaque in the Best Female Group Category. "Independent Women Part I," which first appeared on the "Charlie's Angels" soundtrack before showing up on their recent Survivor, scored the Video and Viewer's Choice nominations.
Scott received nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female R&B Artist, a category where she's up against Jackson, whose sexy "All for You" was nominated for Video of the Year.
Outkast's "Ms. Jackson" clip also picked up a video nomination, as well as a Viewer's Choice nod. St. Louis rapper Nelly is up for the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best New Artist awards.
Whitney Houston will receive a Lifetime Achievement honor at the awards, which will be held June 19 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. Hosted by Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, the awards, which also honor film and sports, will be broadcast on BET on a yet-to-be-determined date.
