Call it Tool Tuesday: The art-metal quartet will kick off a short U.S. outing May 15, the same day its long-awaited third studio album, Lateralus, drops. On the day Tool fans have been waiting for since 1996 the year the group's last studio LP, Aenima, was released not only will a record of new material hit stores, but Tool will also hit the stage of Atlanta's Tabernacle. From there, the group will perform May 17 in Chicago and May 18 in Detroit before wrapping up its Stateside stint May 20 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Tool will then embark on a monthlong tour of Europe, beginning May 25. Additional touring plans have yet to be finalized, according to a band spokesperson.
For those fans who can't wait to hear a new Tool tune, the band's official Web site, www.toolband.com, will exclusively stream Lateralus' first single, "Schism," from May 16. Last month, guitarist Adam Jones directed the video for the track, which hits radio May 6 (see "Tool Prep Video, Short Tour Before New Album Drops").
