LOS ANGELES — Destiny's Child, R. Kelly, LL Cool J and Yolanda Adams were recognized as role models for people of color Thursday night at the NAACP's 32nd Annual Image Awards, taking home trophies in the event's musical categories.

Gospel singer Adams led the pack with four awards, including Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Song for "Open My Heart." The ballad also won Best R&B/Soul Single, Female, at Wednesday night's Soul Train Music Awards. Kelly matched his double-win showing at Soul Train, nabbing Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Music Video for "I Wish." Destiny's Child were named Outstanding Duo or Group for "Say My Name," while LL Cool J picked up the prize for Outstanding Hip-Hop/Rap Artist for his album G.O.A.T. Featuring James T. Smith — The Greatest of All Time. The first phase of the two-part Image Awards, held at the Universal Amphitheater, honored black entertainers, writers and professionals in music, media, literature and daytime television. The second phase, to be held Saturday (March 3), will honor people in film and television as well as present special awards such as Entertainer of the Year. The two shows will be combined for broadcast March 9 on Fox. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People honors projects and individuals of all races who help promote "positive images of people of color," according to a statement from the organization.
