MODERATOR: Welcome everyone!
MODERATOR: Send your questions to Carl and Kevin by typing in the space below and hitting "ask a question".
MTV_Kevin:What's up, this is Kevin and Carl from Fuel, what's happening?
RoxieFuelie4Life:Hey Carl n Kevin! I was just wondering what it was like for FUEL in the very beginning. Congrats on going gold!
MTV_Carl:Oh wow! Thanks for the gold comment.
MTV_Carl:We spend a lot of time in a box truck and a Honda Civic, touring all over.
MTV_Carl:We've definitely paid our dues....
MTV_Kevin:and we're still paying them (laughs)
mereluvsfuel:whats it like to have your new album go to number 17 and have a number one single?
MTV_Kevin:I think it well exceeded my expectations of what could happen, but it's been an amazing ride and I'm going to enjoy it as long as I can.
Lemonolics:kevin what happened to the good old all gelled up hairstyle? was it damaging ur health?
MTV_Kevin:yes, I believe the glue had entered my brain.
MTV_Kevin:I used to use Elmer's glue.
MTV_Carl:Plus he didn't want to look like me...
MTV_Kevin:No, I think it was just time for a change.
Fuels_Angel:Kevin, when did you decide you wanted to be a drummer?
MTV_Kevin:at a very young age, 5 or 6, very early in life, but I didn't start playing drums until I was 18
SuperHero_Shimmyr:Carl, what is your current set up for your amps and pedals?
MTV_Carl:Currently using Huges and Kettner amps and cabinets.
MTV_Carl:Les Pauls and PRS guitars....
MTV_Carl:and a whole truckload of pedals!!!
Keebs2n6:ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS ON THE NEW ALBUM IS "INNOCENT", WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND IT AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
MTV_Carl:Actually I wrote that song for the movie Cruel Intentions....
MTV_Carl:But i really didn't like the movie, so I kept it for the record.
MTV_Carl:It's about growing up, your eyes get opened, and you lose your innocence.
qtpie645:I just wanna say, i LOVE your song 'Hemmorage' and i was wondering:::::What inspired you to write the song and what the meaning behind the lyrics?
MTV_Carl:That song was written after we got off the road in NOvember, for our month off. Before we went into preproduction.
MTV_Carl:It was inspired by my need to get more songs for the record!
MTV_Carl:And the song's just about getting burnt, and not being willing to be burned again.
SuperHero_Shimmyr:Kevin, who are your major drum influences?
MTV_Kevin:wow I'd say Alan White from Yes
MTV_Kevin:Steven Perkins from Jane's Addiction
MTV_Kevin:Jeff Procaro from Toto
MTV_Kevin:and Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters
sepultank:What was the first thig you did after hearing you song on the air waves??
MTV_Kevin:the song had been played on a local level for a long time before the band got signed
MTV_Kevin:but we were driving into New York city and Carl said if I hear "Shimmer" on KROQ I'm going to lose my mind
MTV_Kevin:and about 6 seconds after he said that it came on and we all freaked out
MTV_Kevin:and I think that's one of the most exciting things that's happened to the band
deathtones:Why the name fuel?
MTV_Carl:Def Leppard was taken..... :::laughs::::
FueledUp550:Do you care about what the rest of the music world is doing? Or do you guys stand alone and do what you want? Cuz whatever is going on in your heads.. it's rox!!!
MTV_Carl:We definitely try to do what we want to do;....
MTV_Carl:And actually, when Hemmorage was to be released off of this album.
MTV_Carl:We were nervous as to how people would respond to it because it is so differnent from what is going on right now.
MTV_Carl:But we're actually glad, really glad that we don't sound like everybody else.
Keebs2n6:How come songs like "Nothing", "Sunday Girl", and "King For A Day" were never put on any album?
MTV_Carl:Actually, they were put on independant records, but they just never seemed to fit right with the records...in context with the records for Sony.
MTV_Carl:They never seemed to fit into the mix of the records.
perryma:are you guys voting tomorrow
MTV_Carl:We can't because we're not in our home state...and we missed the absentee ballot...
MTV_Carl:Ralph Nader....GO GO GO
hpinker:how long has Fuel been together?
MTV_Carl:Eight years.
MTV_Carl:And Kevin has been with us for the past 4 years.
Niviana:You guys have come so far as a band, do u have any advice sor aspiring bands out there?
MTV_Kevin:Stay in school. Become a music attorney or music manager and you will reap and rape.
chillfactor0987:KEVIN WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING THE LAST PEROSN TO JOIN THE BAND?
MTV_Kevin:I think for the band and myself it was a big step without either of us knowing each other.
MTV_Kevin:And I also think that things have worked out really well.
ripko2131:What do you think the next single will be? Last Time, Bad Day, or Innocent?
MTV_Carl:Right now we're going with Innocent, although we hope Last Time has it's time in the sun as well.
MTV_Carl:But probably all three will be released, that's what we're hoping for.
muze927:What were some of the major differences in the writing between the two albums?
MTV_Carl:I think the major difference is that you are in a different mental place for each record...
MTV_Carl:And for me that's the difference, I'm in a different place as a writer. A lot has changed.
georgia_06:Do you like the big concerts or the small compact concerts better?
MTV_Carl:I like the grand scale of the big concerts and the intimacy of the small concerts. They are both fun. They are too different to compare.
Fuels_Angel:Carl and Kevin...what is your fave song to play live??
MTV_Carl:I like to play Untitled live. and I like Hemmorage as well.
MTV_Kevin:I like Hemmorage and Sunburn, they're my 2 favorites.
RageKorn:I have a question about hemmorhage what does it mean and what does the video for it mean
MTV_Carl:Well, Hemmorage is just about being burned and not being burned again....and the video....did not come out as planned.
MTV_Carl:I think the video follows more about loss, than about what the lyrics represent.
MissInnocent1:What's the best band you've toured with?
MTV_Kevin:Aerosmith - every night just watching those guys doing what they've been doing for 26 years
CTfuelgirl:Carl, do you see yourself more as a songwriter or a guitarist?
MTV_Carl:I definitely see myself as a songwriter more.
MTV_Carl:There's a lot of great guitar players out there that you never get to hear them....
MTV_Carl:so I shifted my focus to songwriting a long time ago.
perryma:its almost the end of the year - what are your 3 favorite cd's this year
MTV_Kevin:I'm actually digging the new Madonna album
MTV_Carl:Pantera..Reinventing the Steel.
MTV_Carl:And I like the Perfect Circle record as well.
Niviana:How do u guys get along being together so much?
MTV_Carl:A good fist fight solves a lot of problems....
MTV_Kevin:We get along like brothers I think but we also understand it's a job
MTV_Carl:And it would suck to be on the road with guys you hate.
MODERATOR: This will be our last question with Kevin and Carl of Fuel
CTfuelgirl:WHERE DO YOU SEE FUEL GOING AS A BAND?
MTV_Kevin:i don't know where we're going, but I'd like to be the largest, fastest rock and roll band that we can be
MODERATOR: Thanks for joining us!
MTV_Carl:Any information you need about the band check us out at fuelweb.com.
MTV_Carl:and we'll see you on the road. Thanks for chattin.
MTV_Kevin:Thanks everybody for coming in.
